How Can We Be Equal If I'm Better Than You? All my life I have heard about this equal rights nonsense. As a child of television I have believed in this fairy tale for a while now. As I grow older and none-the-wiser, I am beginning to see a pattern here. This whole equal rights thing is a fucking scam invented by advertisers and politicians to win elections and peddle the bullshit they are selling. Growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood, I never had to look at this issue because it didn’t affect me. I am a young, white, middle-class male. The world is designed for me. It wasn’t until my white bread world collapsed and I was forced to spend some time living on the streets that I got to see exactly what equal rights meant. It means that those that are within the narrowly defined social parameters can enjoy equality on the surface level. Anyone outside the parameters is “tolerated” (most of the time). Whatever. This article will attempt to explain why equality can and never will happen. If you have read thus far and are already offended I must warn you to go no further because it doesn’t get much better from here. There is no such thing as equal rights in a capitalist society. Go ahead and take that in a minute, I’ll wait. In terms of political and economic factors no one will ever be truly equal as long as a slender minority controls the majority of the resources. It has never happened and never will. Get over it all ready. It is not in human nature to seek equality. In fact, if you subscribe to the Darwinian Theory of Evolution, equality cannot exist if a specifies is to survive. The cries for equality mainly come from the oppressed, rarely the oppressor. I’m not defending social inequities (or am I?), but to deny that they exist would be the epitome of self delusion. I am merely stating a fact. So why then is there all this fuss about equal this and equal that? I live in an extremely culturally diverse area of the world; Los Angeles. In my neighborhood we mostly have lower middle class Hispanics. Most of the white people in the area refuse to walk around here at night. A little farther up the hill live upper middle class white folk, Hispanics, Slavs, and Croatians. Still farther up the hill dwells the upper crust in their multi-million dollar estates over looking LA and the Pacific Ocean. A few miles north we run into South Central Los Angeles, famed for its gang violence and drugs. A few more miles north east we find the now infamous Compton, made famous by Dr. Dre and NWA. Both areas are highly settled by black folk. To the immediate left is Long Beach or the LBC as Snoop Dogg so eloquently puts it. The area in between is sprinkled with projects, low income housing, and middle class dwellings. In just a few square miles we find just about every extreme that this great country has to offer. Farther south we find the republican controlled, white flight created, and very wealthy Orange County. If this whole “equality” thing were true, then why are the wealthy areas inhabited mainly by white folk? Why are the black folk still sentenced to a life of poverty and bullshit? And why do such extreme gaps exist in the first place? I would love to hear your ever so wise answer. We are not the same, nor are we equal. If we were then the ghettos would be as racially diverse as the privileged areas. If we were all meant to be equal then everyone would look like me, act like me, and be as brilliant as I am. Since most people fall way short of me, there can be little hope of this whole equality fantasy. As long as there are people born better than others, no one will be equal. As long as socioeconomic, physical, and superficial personality factors influence our opinions of people’s worth, equality will remain a myth. As long as there is genetic diversity, equality will never occur in the natural world. If you believe that some day we will achieve a “utopian” paradise in which we are all the same, you are a fucking idiot. But there is no doubt that political and economic forces will continue to pound home “sameness” and equality, and guilty Christians will embrace it as gospel, but equality will always be a bit out of reach. Never in history has this ideal been achieved. As sickening as competition is, it is the very foundation of survival on this planet. It is part of the animal and I fear that most people forget that stripped down to the core, that’s all we are. Unequal, surviving animals. Want a perfect example of this? Get in your car and take a little drive on your local freeway. This works better at rush hour, but it will hold up in any amount of traffic flow. To see just how equal you are to the guy next to you turn on your blinker. If you were truly equal then you would be just as worthy as changing lanes as he is of occupying the same lane. But wait, something’s happening, he’s speeding up. Hmmmm…..obviously you are good enough to occupy the same lane, just not in front of him. That is human instinct in a nutshell. So what of this bullshit I hear teachers telling their students? They say crap like, “Now listen here little Johnny, if you want to be a brain surgeon there’s no reason why you can’t”. Oh no? What about the fact that Johnny is dumb as a rock and only has one arm and only 2 fingers that work and those fingers constantly twitch and he faints when he sees blood and he is blind in one eye and thinks bright lights are cooool and he spits when he talks? Why give Johnny false hope? Why fill his head with crazy dreams of brain surgery and normalcy just to make yourself feel better? Why not just tell him the truth? “Well Johnny since you are a dumb shit and you’re a deformed retard, the best you can hope for is head fry guy at McDonalds or possibly a greeter position at Wal-Mart. Don’t even attempt to live a normal life as you will never be fully accepted. You might as well accept this now or kill yourself.” At least this way little Johnny will have a realistic view of the world instead of some happy sunshine bullshit philosophy that will only leave him with bitterness and resentment. Perhaps the best example of this is the “crazy” notion that woman are somehow equal to men. This is completely laughable. The fact that woman are required to be in the subservient role for the human species to reproduce is enough the smack them back into the kitchen. I think it’s cute that they want to play businessman and fire fighter, but please, give it a rest. The main problem is not that they seek equality in the work place, but they don’t seek TRUE equality anywhere else. Sure they want the most advantageous sides of equal rights but try and get them to pay half the dinner bill on a first date and you are sure to meet with a drink in your lap. As the old saying goes; give them an inch and they'll want 7. Fucking bitches. It has been historically proven that equality is never enough. Labor unions are a perfect example of this. First it starts out as a campaign for equal pay and safe working conditions then it spirals out of control to completely absurd demands that have nothing to do with equality. Pretty soon they are working half a day for a full days pay, getting paid way more than they're worth, and still bitch about how bad they have it. The fact that a fat ass construction worker that can barely read makes more than most teachers with graduate degrees is enough to make anyone sick. Just about every dictator rises to power as the oppressed hero that vows to set balance for his people (notice I said HIS). But what happens? His people become the oppressed victim of the same shit with a different smell. Fuck that. This whole equality idea sounds great, but much like a long shore man taking a math exam, it fails miserably. Go ahead and keep believing what you want just as long as you don’t mind being wrong. Go ahead and think that me and you are equal. That will do nothing to change the fact that I am, and always will be, better than you. There will always be at least one or two people that you are better than, making me far superior. Even in the whacky fictional utopia of communism, there is no equality. Someone is always on top.
